General information:

HLA-B27 REAL-TIME PCR is a rapid group-specific detection test for HLA-B27 (Major histocompatibility complex, class I, B).
Human leukocyte antigen B27 (HLA-B27) is a protein located on the surface of white blood cells. The HLA-B27 test is a blood test that identifies HLA-B27 proteins.
Human leukocyte antigens (HLAs) are proteins normally found on white blood cells. These antigens help the immune system identify the differences between healthy tissue and foreign substances that can cause infection.

Its presence is a predisposing factor for a number of spondyloarthropathies - ankylosing spondylitis (Bechterev's disease), Reiter's syndrome, psoriatic arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile spondyloarthritis, enthesitis-related arthritis.
HLA-B27 is found in 50% of cases of spondylitis associated with chronic colon inflammation.

Ankylosing spondylitis is a chronic rheumatic disease. It affects the sacroiliac joints, the spine, and less often the peripheral joints and causes disability. It occurs more often in men and develops before the age of 40.

HLA-B27 is not the cause of the disease, but a predisposing factor.
