General information:

Enteroviruses enter the body through the digestive tract. It is possible for enteroviruses to be transmitted by airborne droplets.. Enteroviruses can probably be transmitted by the same route as the viruses that cause the common cold, by contact of hands with secretions and subsequent inoculation in the mouth, nose, eyes. Enterovirus infections are rarely associated with consumption of contaminated food or water.
Epidemiological characteristics vary by geographic region and climate, but incidence is highest in the summer and fall months in temperate climates, while in tropical climates infections occur with equal frequency throughout the year.
