General information:

Measles is a highly contagious viral infection that presents with fever, sore throat and a typical rash. Once very common, today, thanks to preventive immunizations, this infection is decreasing significantly worldwide. Measles is particularly severe and even fatal in children who are not immunized or for some reason have reduced immunity. Predisposing factors are also vitamin A deficiency and travel to countries where the disease is widespread. The cause of the disease is a virus, which is located in the nasopharynx. A person is contagious a few days before the rash appears up to 4 days after. The infection is transmitted through coughing and sneezing.

The following are being investigated:

  • Measles IgM - indicator of acute infection

  • Measles IgG- past infection. They stay in the body for years.
