Anti-Zinc transporter 8 – ab; ZnT8
General information:
Antibodies to zinc transporter 8 (Zn T8) are an immunological marker specific for the pancreatic β-cell and are accordingly autoantigens. Zinc plays an important role in the functioning of the β-cell, participating in the storage, secretion and action of insulin. These antibodies, along with the established ones, support the diagnosis and prognosis of type 1 diabetes because their levels have been established even in the preclinical phase of diabetes. Autoimmune processes are responsible for the vast majority of childhood and adolescent diabetes cases, but 4-10% of adult diabetics also show the presence of autoantibodies (LADA). Zn T8 As may serve to differentiate clinical phenotypes among patient populations.
