General information:
Only the free PS has activity as cofactor of activated Protein C (Protein C) by enhancing its effect. Therefore, determining the free PS gives more useful information than determining the total amount of protein. PS also has its own anticoagulant action. Takes part in the processes of control in the formation of thrombin and fibrinolysis.
PS deficiency is associated with an increased risk of thrombosis.
