General Information:

Biological fluids, especially blood plasma, contain a heterogeneous mixture of proteins in varying concentrations, some of them in very small amounts (enzymes, hormones, etc.). At present over 100 types of serum proteins have a clear structure, molecular mass and physicochemical properties. In a significant number of them, the biological function and their clinical significance for the practice have been specified, specific methods for their proving and determining their serum level have been introduced. These proteins are designated as individual serum proteins. Total serum protein includes all proteins in the blood without blood, haemoglobin and fibrinogen.

In healthy adults, total protein values are within certain limits.

Some diseases experience abnormalities.
