General Information:

The test is done to assess the body's ability to break down glucose under insulin exposure. This is a test for the diagnosis of diabetes or impaired carbohydrate tolerance - pre-diabetes, as well as gestational diabetes (during pregnancy). The principle of the test is to load the body with a glucose-containing liquid and measure blood glucose at regular intervals. In a deficiency or absence of insulin, blood glucose is kept permanently high, while in normal conditions, the high sugar content causes enhanced secretion of insulin by the pancreas and rapid normalization of blood glucose levels.

This test assesses the ability of the pancreas, the load of the body with carbohydrates to respond with adequacy secretion of insulin, which cause blood glucose levels to the normal range. Respectively with this test answer the question or not there is diabetes in those cases where blood glucose levels are borderline and definitely not high, so only studied fasting glucose cannot be diagnosed.

Sample Required:

Venous or capillary blood in the morning, after fasting. It is also advisable to carry a small mineral water bottle. On the day, glucose is measured at the 0, 60, 120, 180 minutes.
